A New Format

The studio has been coming together nicely, and I figured it was time for a proper update. But this one’s a bit different. I just finished implementing an IK body solution along with an avatar system using Ready Player Me, which means I can now record from inside the studio itself — as an avatar, moving around the room, interacting with the gear. So instead of a standard devlog, this is the first proper vlog recorded entirely from within the virtual control room.

It felt right. If I’m building a studio you’re meant to step into, showing it from the inside makes a lot more sense than narrating over flat screenshots. You can see the console, the outboard racks, the multitrack — everything in context, the way it’s meant to be experienced.

The Workflow

In the video I walk through the full mixing workflow as it stands right now. The process follows a pretty traditional signal flow, which was always the goal — make it feel like a real studio session, not a software tutorial.

It starts with importing audio files. The multitrack recorder accepts WAV, MP3, AIFF, and OGG formats, and you can load them across up to 24 channels. From there you set your levels on each track, then move to EQ and dynamics processing. For the vocal in this demo I added some reverb and a touch of delay from the outboard effects. Once the mix sounds right, you bounce everything down to the virtual two-track tape machine.

I kept the camera moving slowly through the session so you can see all the knobs and buttons actually being turned and pressed. That tactile interaction is such a big part of what makes this feel different from a DAW — you’re reaching out and physically grabbing the gear.

Under the Hood

Below the video I’ve included a batch of development screenshots showing the current state of things behind the scenes. These capture some of the UI work, the layout of the control room, and a few technical bits that don’t come through in the vlog format.

If you want to follow along more closely or get early access to test builds, I’ve set up a Discord for the project. Come say hello — always good to hear from people who are interested in where this is heading.
