Welcome to the developer log of my passion project
With my blog articles, I like to take you along on my development journey. The first steps were taken as far back as 2015/2016, but significant effort has been put in since 2017. With periods of lots of progress to periods when no progress was made at all, here’s my trip on building a virtual reality audio recording & production studio from scratch. I hope you like it. I’m always open to comments & suggestions, so just say hi, send me an email or leave a comment.

Devlog 8 : Why I’m switching to the (better) Unreal Engine
It’s been a while since the last devlog and VLOG because a lot has been happening. All the work in Unity3D has been halted, and the new Retro Recording Studio is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Switching from Unity3D to Unreal A reason there were not many updates is that Unity is a changing company. Unity…
Devlog 7B : A little sidestep in a smaller multiplayer studio
As a small side project form my bigger project, I made a simpler version of the studio multiplayer compatible together with freelance colleague Jeroen de Mooij from theFirstfloor.nl In this simpler version compared to the full blown studio, Jeroen modelled and textured a nice looking modern studio room in Cinema4d. Then he sent over the…

Devlog 4 : Quick jumping In and out VR during development is the worst
While developing an XR application, you need to get in and out of XR /VR quite often. And this can be quite bothersome. Headset off, headset on. Cables twisted, HMD powered down or sleep mode. Steam VR not running. Unity3d Crashing when it does. etc. Having a flip up headset might fix some of the…
Devlog 3 : Continue of the work, VR passion project
After the video of mixing Nirvana in the studio was released I got a lot of feedback and I planned on spending many nights and any of my free time trying to improve the studio, add features, optimize so it ran faster. And I got to build some of this stuff, but working only nights…

Devlog 0 : Essential first steps of my passion project
Preface : Let me tell you about my journey into virtual reality. Back in 2013, I was asked to work on the development of a virtual reality experience for an indoor attraction park. It was an exciting time, VR was really new, the Oculus DK1 was just announced on Kickstarter, and the world seemed to…
