I just added an acoustic guitar to the options of instruments, so a quick devlog to show an update of how and what.
I previously already made the drums in the recording area of the studio already playable (video soon) and the piano can be touched and makes sound. Only makes sound as playing a piano with controllers is a whole other ballpark, that I still need to research.
I did however already did some of that research on a guitar. I’m not a good guitar player by any means, but know the chords and can do play some simple arpeggios.
So here is a small demo vid I did to show how you can play an acoustic guitar in VR using your controllers.
I use the different buttons and joystick on the controller to select which kind of chord shape you want to play (bar chords on E major or E minor based or switch to a A major and A minor. Press button to add 7th or 9th or maybe pull down the joystick to enable diminished. The position of your left hand determines the pitch of the chord like a real guitar and as your actually press all the strings on the right spot, you can either play chords or separate notes or mix between them.
I added an arpeggio mode on the right hand so you can automate playing certain patterns. As hitting the right string each time in time, might be difficult. Maybe hand tracking in the future will be the solution for this, IDK.
I might make a separate Oculus Quest app from this later on, as well as a bass guitar and electric guitar versions.
