As a small side project form my bigger project, I made a simpler version of the studio multiplayer compatible together with freelance colleague Jeroen de Mooij from theFirstfloor.nl

In this simpler version compared to the full blown studio, Jeroen modelled and textured a nice looking modern studio room in Cinema4d. Then he sent over the FBX files for me to implement in Unity3D. Using the built-in Unity based version system, we could work on the scene simultaneously. This made the speed of development and iteration really fast,

Making some sound

I added some music props like a mic and headphones then added the console. Next up was audio import and mixing routines and some transport controls and effects on top. We used a modified version of my wave generator I use in my virtual recording studio project and Jeroen improved it with some visuals and more functions as you can see on the big screen behind the console. Then we added multiplayer using a nice unity plugin which already provide support for Voice over IP.

Multiplayer

As multiplayer was working, we added a drawing board and basketball game to play while listening to the music, ow so cool 😉
Jeroen did some more tweaking on the windows in the recording booth, while I fixed the play in sync stuff.

Standalone?

Although not yet running on the Quest 2 standalone, you still need a computer for decent audio processing and realtime playback and playing a so far unoptimized XR experience, the goal with enough interest from the market, is to release a standalone version. Maybe Quest 3 is powerful enough to port to without much trouble?

Future will learn.

Mixing music with others is fun!! So we built a shared space to mix songs.

And if you just want to hang around and listen to your VR buddies mixing, that’s cool as well, there’s enough to keep you occupied. A Meta Quest app to mix your own tracks is on the horizon. What would you like to add to this space? Let us know in the comments down below! Song: [van den b] Stash (  / stash  )
