ATR-100 (Mastering Recorder)
1976 – mid-1980s
The Ampex ATR-100 was the standard 2-track mastering recorder for major US studios from the late 1970s onward. Fully transparent audio path, the Spool Mode that let you shuttle the reels for instant manual location, and a build quality that meant the machine still seen in working studios today. "Ampex Makes It Exciting" — the company's late-1970s campaign positioned the ATR-100 as the recorder for engineers who cared about audio integrity above all.
