Model 501 / Son of 36 Grand
1973 – 1980
Auditronics' flagship recording console — 26 inputs, 16 outputs, quadraphonic mix bus. Evolved from the Spectrasonics-licensed "36 Grand" designs that Welton Jetton had been building in Memphis since the mid-1960s. Marketed through the late 1970s as "Not Just an Alternative... The Answer!" — interfaced with the Allison Research FADEX automation system and priced under $50,000 — a serious-quality American console aimed squarely at studios who couldn't justify Harrison or SSL money. Distributed by Valley Audio of Nashville under the tagline "Masters of Aural Gratification."
