Mackie's "Built-Like-A-Tank" live-sound consoles — the SR24•4 (24-channel) and SR32•4 (32-channel) four-bus desks aimed at live sound rigs, houses of worship, and project studios that needed more channels than the compact 1604 mixer but couldn't justify the 8-Bus. Launched around 1995 at £1495 / £1995, they cemented Mackie's reputation for "good enough for digital recording" at every price tier. The SR series used the same low-noise XLR mic preamps as the 8-Bus, added robust 60mm log-taper faders, balanced mono main out, and all-channel inserts — and became the go-to mid-range Mackie desk through the late 1990s. Widely installed in churches, small PA companies, college and community facilities, and the growing breed of DAW-based project studios running Pro Tools on ADAT.
