Tape Machines and Consoles

Otari ↗

Otari Corporation, founded in Tokyo, built its reputation on professional tape machines — the MTR-90 multitrack was a workhorse in studios worldwide. They later expanded into consoles with the Concept 1, Series 54, and Concept Elite, offering mid-to-upper-tier recording desks alongside their tape legacy.

Otari acquired Sound Workshop in 1988, merging two parallel console-engineering traditions. Their consoles appeared in Asian, European, and North American commercial studios through the 1990s.
