Rarity

Holy Grail (one of ~4 ever built)

Fully digital signal path One of ~4 ever built Trident's digital swansong (1986-89) QWERTY console control Predecessor concept to DAW-style mixing

The Di-An (Digital Analogue) was Trident's ambitious final flagship — a fully digital large-format console developed in the late 1980s, years ahead of the eventual SSL Aysis, Sony Oxford and Euphonix CS-series. The console combined a familiar in-line control surface with centralised digital signal processing, snapshot recall and a built-in QWERTY keyboard for setting up sessions. Only a handful — variously reported as three or four — were ever completed before Trident went into receivership in 1989. The technology, ideas and key staff dispersed into Soundtracs and the early digital-mixing industry, but the few surviving Di-Ans remain among the rarest large-format desks ever made. The Burbank Studios installation in Burbank, California is the one most often photographed, including by JacoTen in February 1988.
