Designed in-house by AMEK's chief engineer Graham Langley, the Big was a large-format in-line console that positioned AMEK as a serious alternative to Neve and SSL. Available in up to 60 channels, it featured VCA automation via the companion AMEK Total Recall system, discrete transformerless circuitry, and a fully modular architecture. Its marketing — "Big by Langley" — was unambiguously bold, with promotional materials featuring a bodybuilder holding the console: classic 1980s bravado that the engineering behind it largely justified. The Big appeared in major UK and European studios throughout the mid-to-late 1980s.
